Roger Ureña Hidalgo triumphed in the 2024 Cup of Excellence washed coffee category, winning first place with a geisha grown on his fourth-generation farm in the Zona de los Santos. We introduced his coffee last year at PMQ Coffee Agenda with a lovely ET-47, and now he’s back with an elegant red honey Typica Mejorado that expresses delicate notes of magnolia, white grape, and breakfast tea in a cup full of sweetness.

Roger built the Santa Teresa micromill eight years ago, a short time after he ramped up operations on his farm by planting exotic varieties like geisha, sudan rume, pacamara, villalobos, sl-28, and more. His farm has been part of the Neutral Carbon certification for the past four years, and a wide community of Panamanian, Nicaraguan, and Costa Rican families work together on the harvest and processing there.

Roger and Santa Teresa have been familiar names on the top 10 COE roster for years now, but we’re very excited to see them recognized in this first place win and look forward to what’s to come from their efforts.
